Isle of Anglesey County Council has eliminated false alarm activations in its high-rise tower blocks since the installation of an advanced Notifier by Honeywell fire safety solution.
Anglesey County Council Partners Honeywell Notifier Reduces False Alarms
By minimising false call-outs, the system has reduced inconvenience to residents and cut the cost to the fire service and local authority. Isle of Anglesey County Council Housing’s Service implemented the new solution initially in Plas Tudur Llangefni, which serves a range of residents. In the year before installation, the council suffered numerous call outs. Since the system’s implementation, there have not been any false activations. The council has now extended the Notifier application across the remaining three blocks in its high-rise estate.
Stephen Owen of the Anglesey County Council Housing Service said: “In light of a routine fire assessment, we identified the need for a resilient solution which would reduce the incidence of unwanted alarms. This was important, as evacuating a complete block of flats every time an alarm was activated caused a major problem.”
Advanced System improves Fire Safety
Where a device in a flat picks up smoke, the software ensures that a full-building alarm is only activated – and the full building evacuated – if either: heat or smoke persists for a set period, or the alarm is triggered on a second device. If not, the device resets itself automatically. This means that the resident or warden can investigate whether or not there is a real fire-related incident.
As a result of the success of the implementation, the Notifier solution is now part of the council’s standard fire safety specification. It is being installed in all residential flats under its ownership.
