Safety in educational environments is paramount, and the introduction of a new wireless fire alarm system for Stonyhurst Refectory signifies a noteworthy advancement in ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors alike. This purpose-built catering complex, designed for meals at Stonyhurst College, has now been equipped with a top-of-the-line fire detection system that strengthens its safety protocols.
Overview of Stonyhurst College’s New Refectory
Stonyhurst College is known for its commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience. The new refectory building is no exception; designed not only to serve quality meals but also to enhance the overall college atmosphere. Understanding the risks associated with cooking and the presence of a large number of people, the college sought a reliable fire alarm system to protect this critical facility.
The Chosen System – Zerio Plus
In collaboration with RV Fire Systems, the college chose the Zerio Plus wireless fire alarm system from Electro Detectors. This system complies with the EN54-25 standard, making it an ideal choice for modern fire detection needs. Electro Detectors, based in Harlow, Essex, is a reputable manufacturer known for their innovative wireless fire alarm solutions.
Features of the Zerio Plus System
The Zerio Plus system boasts several excellent features to enhance fire safety. It incorporates wireless detection devices, call points, interfaces, and sounders throughout the building. One of the highlights of this installation is the stainless steel repeater panel, strategically positioned at the main entrance for efficient monitoring.
The installation of wireless devices allows for greater flexibility and ease of setup compared to traditional wired systems. It dramatically reduces installation time and disruption, making it perfect for educational establishments that are constantly bustling with activity.
Smoke Aspirating System for Enhanced Protection
In addition to the primary wireless components of the system, a smoke aspirating system was also implemented to safeguard areas with concealed voids. This system is particularly beneficial as it detects smoke at the earliest possible stage, enhancing overall safety. Traditional point detection methods would have posed significant maintenance challenges in these spaces, making the aspirating solution a practical choice.
